Meet the Pros!

Daniel Sharplin - Dan Sharplin has been playing squash for over 27 years now. Originally from New Zealand, Dan has been been coaching and competing within the United States since 2004. Needless to say - his technique and fundamentals are incredibly sound. We have been fortunate enough to have Dan serve as our head pro here at CCS&F for just about a year now.

Career Highlights: U.S. +35 Champion 2009...U.S. +30 Champion 2007...U.S. Team Champion 2006 & 2007...New Zealand Men's Champion & #1 Player 2002...Member of New Zealand National Team 1995-2006...Massachusetts State Champion 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009...National Coach of Luxembourg 1996-2001...N.Z.S.R.A Level 0 & 1 Accredited Coach

How long have you been playing squash? 27 years
What is your most memorable victory? The 2002 New Zealand National Championship
If you could give only one piece of advice to a new squash player, what would it be? "Watch the ball"

Simba Muhwati - Simba Muhwati's journey from Zimbabwe to play squash in the United States was no easy venture. By the time Simba was 20 years old he was already a well known squash player throughout Africa. When Simba was initially recruited by American universities however, he was faced with various obstacles in obtaining the required student visas. Poor communication outlets in Zimbabwe only made the situation more difficult for Simba. Yet when faced with adversity - true champions prevail. Simba is a relatively new pro at CCS&F that brings high levels of intensity and energy teaching the sport that he loves.

Career Highlights: Co-Captain Trinity College Squash Team...U.S. 2nd Team All American...U.S. National Collegiate Championship Team Member 2005-2009...Assistant Coach Trinity Men's Squash Team 2008/9...Appeared in first ever Sports Illustrated article on squash...Zimbabwe National Men's Squash Team 1998-present...Zimbabwe U16 National Champion

How long have you been playing squash? 20 years
If you could give only one piece of advice to a new squash player, what would it be? "My dad always said there are only three shots you should play in squash: Drive, drop, and lob."
Favorite Quote: "No excuses, just results!"

Squash: The Fusion of Athletics and Academics

As high school students prepare themselves for the college application process, they might want to keep the following piece of information in mind; squash is considered one of the foremost sports used in college recruitment today. While squash is one of the most heavily recruited sports for the NCAA, it is not nearly as popular as other high school sports. Squash has essentially become a hidden gem of sorts - providing access for those who play into some of the nation's top colleges and universities.
Check out the following news report Channel 5 conducted earlier this year about the connections between squash and college recruitment.
